The Best Food in Thailand

If you plan on travelling to Thailand anytime soon and have never been there before, you are in for quite a treat when it comes to the food.

Thai cuisine is some among the most popular in the world but like any specifically ethnic food, the only place to get truly authentic Thai food is to go to the source.

While some of the best food in Thailand is of the "home cooked" variety, most people who travel to the country internationally do not have personal contacts there so they have no way of tasting home cooked dishes.

Having said that, we are relegated to restaurants which is absolutely fine because there are countless restaurants throughout the country that serve up authentic Thai food, much of which could probably pass as home cooked anyway.

Some people may be familiar with the Blue Elephant from visiting countries other than Thailand. This popular Thai restaurant is one of the most beloved eateries both in the country as well as outside of it and has 10 locations around the world.

The Blue Elephant is in many ways a model of what a great authentic Thai restaurant should be. As such, it serves some of the best dishes from around the country. One of the most common dishes from the eastern region is papaya salad, known natively as som tam.

From southern Thailand, dishes such as massaman and red curry, pad thai, and som yam soup are long-time favorites.

Street food is also extremely popular in Thailand both with natives as well as tourists. Among the better places to eat when it comes to street food are Lumpini Park and Sukhumvit 38, both in Bangkok. The chefs at both places prepare made-to-order dishes for customers that include a number of stir-fried items.

If it is fine dining you are looking for, the Sala Rim Nam restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok Hotel is the place to go. The menu is traditionally Thai and the food is served with the quality, style, and sophistication of the best five-star restaurants anywhere else in the world.

There are plenty of reasons to visit Thailand other than the food. But once you're there, the food may just be one of the main reasons you want to come back.
